WHO WE ARE
Khao Mai Thai started with a simple idea: cook the food we grew up eating, the way our family has always made it.
The recipes on our menu are family recipes, cooked at home long before they ever reached a plate here. No shortcuts, just the flavours we grew up with.
We opened our doors at 356 St Georges Road, Fitzroy North, and made this street our home. What hasn't changed since is what's on the plate — every dish cooked the way our family always cooked it.
Khao Mai Thai is still a family kitchen and we're glad you're here to share it with us.

Chive Cake
Pan-seared chive dumpling cake, served with house dipping sauce.
Miang Pla
Crispy, golden-fried barramundi fillet (A), drizzled with a tangy-sweet sauce of lime, chili and roasted coconut.

This is truly a hidden gem in Melbourne. Most of the time I take away but since the renovations it's a really nice place to sit. I was skeptical when a friend made me eat there and they won me over — now my friends are skeptical when I tell them to eat there and they are never disappointed. It's a must for anyone who is vegan or hates fish sauce in their food. The staff are really lovely. My fave is the satay tofu and vegetable stir fry with roti.
